ODDS & ENDS

Two weeks ago now I did a radio slot called Storyville, which goes out as part of the Breakfast Show on Xfm, a station that belongs to the Capital Radio group and claims a listenership of about 650,000 'bright, alternative rock people' aged 16-35. The slot was a treat because instead of the usual interview, it consisted of readings from the book: in my case one Bob Dylan Encyclopedia entry broadcast on the Monday, another on the Wednesday and a third on the Thursday. When you're in the studio, though, they record five readings rather than three, and all five are supposed to be put up online the week of the broadcast. The shows have come and gone, and I don't know which three they used on air, but the five that should be up on the Xfm.com website still haven't appeared, though they've promised they'll go up this coming week. The entries I chose - each had to be less than two minutes long, so some were just parts of entries - were on the John Wesley Harding album, U2, Jimi Hendrix, Lou Reed and Jakob Dylan.

Vile weather in England has replaced July's lovely heatwave. It's been so cold the last couple of days we've had a fire on of an evening. Cold wind in August, shivers up and down our spines. No longer the weather for the fab 1931 Alvis TK1260 below...
