TELL TALE SIGNS PART 4 - AND GERSHAM COX

Just to say I've finally begun responding to the some of the 20 comments added to TELL TALE SIGNS PART 3, and to those added to BITS AND ER BOBS. Better late than never.

Meanwhile today is the 120th anniversary of the scoring of the first goal in the Football League, by one Gersham Cox, a relative of mine. Unfortunately his niche is history is slightly spoiled by this also having been the first own goal in the Football League. Ah well...

Gersham (Gershom?) Cox at least went on to play in an FA Cup final (1892), so that went some way to making up for his first-day blunder.

Villa LOST the final, of course, but still, that is more FA Cup finals than most people manage....
