WOW! AN E-MAIL FROM BOB DYLAN!
Yesterday an e-mail came in saying it was from Bob Dylan... but of course on opening it, I found that it wasn't. It was from BobDylan@columbia.co.uk, a slightly different matter. I mention it because its subject heading was "UK dates announced" and its message was headed "Bob Dylan set to play UK dates in 2009" . . . and this arrived yesterday - i.e. four days after the small-venue Edinburgh Playhouse concert went on sale and five days after we'd all learnt all the tour details from fans who run websites and e-newsletters and who, unlike the blithe staff of Columbia Records in London, aren't paid to disseminate this information but do realise that time is of the essence in these matters.
I got tickets on Friday morning after seeing it on your blog late Thursday night. I got the same email from Columbia today, long after the gig in question sold out, and thought much the same thing as you. A fairly pathetic 'service'.
ReplyDeleteMichael,
ReplyDeleteYour heading started me wondering. Does Bob Dylan use e-mail (other than the bobdylan@xmradio.com one)? Does he even use the Internet, or computers at all. Perhaps his experiences with digital recording have led him to dabble a little. (If so, I'd like to think that he doesn't use a Mac!)
Perhaps Bob reads your blog. Who knows, he could even be one of your commentators. Bob - if you're reading this, give us a sign.
