ANOTHER TANGLE
In the course of the Winterlude Weekend just gone, we were, among much else, entrancing ourselves with a Paris 1978 recording of 'Tangled Up In Blue'. And then today, via Cat Power's quite interesting 'Song To Bobby' and KT Tunstall's 'Simple Twist of Fate', I found this, from the latter's appearance on a Jools Holland TV show - and though it's no good trying to compare it to Bob in Paris (or London) 1978, there's something pretty good about it:

Well, a cute George Harrison touch on the opening riff, but otherwise just adequate karaoke. Nice song, though.

I disagree. I think she occupies the song and that she and the musicians are, as it were, alive in the moment. Good to know you're still reading the blog though Matthew...

Related song worth checking out: "(Tangled Up in Your) Babylon Blues" on Ian Hunter's new album, Man Overboard -- good to hear rock's original grumpy old man at 70 still angry as a fellow traveller succumbs to the temptations of celebrity. "Don't try pulling me down to your level / Ain't nothing worse than a phony-assed rebel".

Whilst on the subject of KT Tunstall and Dylan, you might like to mention this version of Wheels on Fire by her and Billy Bragg. This is from a Bob Dylan tribute show on BBC 4 a couple of years back (it was in honour of his ninetieth birthday, or something like that). On the same show there was an even better rendering of Tangled up in Blue by her which you can also find on YouTube. She certainly seems to like Blood on the Tracks, and does it justice.
Ian Hunter would probably give his right arm to have a fraction of Dylan's talent.
Funny though how people use nonsense such as "succumbs to the temptation of celebrity" to justify their own admiration for a minor talent.
I do not believe that it is Dylan's fault that he is held in such great esteem and therefore an object of celebrity.
Angry youmg man,grumpy old man, voice of a generation,etc are media terms and have no place in any discussion of a serious artist ...probably the most influential artist ever ( as Ian Hunter would probably testify ).

Hunter mentioned in relation to KT, probably the most influential artist ever only in Paul's estimation. "Justify their admiration of a minor talent..." Words fail me. And they don't often.

Why ridicule each other's preferred artist, opinion or taste? The dialogue between MZ & Paul reads like something Dylan could have worked into Highlands or Tombstone Blues.
