DYLAN HEADLINE OF THE YEAR . . .

. . . is surely this, from the Washington Post, reporting an apparent fading of our keenness to give Bob Dylan ever larger amounts of our money.

A great headline, although I would have also accepted: "All the money you made will never buy back your slobber." The following extract was my favourite:

"At the stroke of midnight on Wednesday, the first 25 lucky collectors who logged onto SamAshMusic.com and plunked down $25,000 could get a limited-edition boxed set of Hohner harmonicas played and autographed by Dylan himself."

Put in the context of Dylan's past ruminations on money, there really is something quite troubling about all of this, isn't there?

$117 for a CD.

$25,000 for a harmonica.

At sixty-seven, what exactly is he saving for? To rip it up, maybe?

I live in hope.

<<"Because this is Dylan's first and only endorsement of a musical instrument, who knows how much they'll appreciate?" wondered a Hohner news release.>>

I seem to remember a photo of Dylan playing/promoting a Fender bass in the mid-60s.

I don't much care for your headline - if we're going to start twisting Dylan's own lines to make our headlines, I'd prefer RELATIONSHIPS OF HOHNERSHIP - but I agree with your sentiments entirely.

Yes indeed!(See p.91 of The Art Of Bob Dylan: Song & Dance Man, Hamlyns and St.Martin's Press, 1981 & 1982.)

I agree with you about the difference between "kill me dead" and "died and was dead" too, and with the other comment about how "kill me dead" bears in mind the way that Jesus was killed but rose again. But it doesn't make me cross the Disc 1 'Girl' off my still-under-construction 1-CD list.

Okay, I admit it, it was a somewhat slapdash attempt. I was planning to fashion something out of To Ramona (Hohner), something to do with the worthless, or perhaps not so worthless foam from the mouth. Alas, laziness got the best of me.

I did quite enjoy "Relationships of Hohnership" though!
